How a convenience store can list its full range on Just Eat and Uber Eats
Many convenience stores list a few hundred best sellers and miss most of what customers actually want. In one case we worked on, a 24/7 store stocked over 1,000 products but only around 150 were live on the apps. Here is how to close that gap.
Why a bigger listing helps
A customer who cannot find milk, bread and everyday essentials in one order will use another shop. A fuller range means bigger baskets and more reasons to re-order. It also takes work, which is why most stores stop at a few popular lines.
Step 1: Get your product data in order
Start from your till or stock system. Export every item with name, size, barcode and price. Clean names so a customer can tell "Coca-Cola 500ml" from "Coke 1.5L". Group items into sensible categories: drinks, snacks, milk and bread, household and so on.
Step 2: Photos and descriptions
Items with a clear photo and a plain name sell better than blank tiles. Use manufacturer images where you have the right to, or take your own. Keep descriptions short and accurate.
Step 3: Price the app menu on purpose
Commission is charged on the order, so many stores set app prices differently from shelf prices. If you do, keep it transparent and follow the platform's rules and consumer law on how prices are shown. Work out the net you keep after commission before you decide.
Step 4: Age-restricted and excluded items
Alcohol and other age-restricted lines come with checks and platform-specific rules, and some product types are not permitted at all. Check the current rules for your platform before listing them, and train anyone handling those orders.
Step 5: Keep it accurate
Stock changes daily. Mark sold-out items off quickly, keep opening hours correct (important for a 24-hour store) and update prices when your supplier prices change. Out-of-stock substitutions are the biggest cause of bad reviews.
Real example: a 24/7 convenience store went from around 150 products live on the apps to over 1,000 after a full menu build and price update across Just Eat and Uber Eats.
Never miss a call either
Customers also phone a shop to ask about stock, fuel or opening hours. A call answering service covers those calls when the counter is busy. See our page for convenience stores and petrol stations.
Frequently asked questions
Can I list my full range myself?
Yes. It is mainly time and data work, and it needs to be kept up to date. Many stores outsource the build and the regular updates.
Do apps allow cigarettes and vapes?
Rules differ by platform and can change, and age-restricted categories are tightly controlled. Check the current policy for each platform before listing anything restricted.
Will a bigger listing mean more orders?
Usually it helps basket size and repeat orders, but results depend on your area, prices and how quickly orders are prepared.
